Is it safe to drive with Service Driver Assist System on?
Drive with care and leave more room ahead. Don't rely on the assist features yet.
Adaptive cruise control, which keeps your distance, may switch off. GM documents this on 2015 to 2020 Escalades.
Send your VIN and we'll check what set it off.
What Service Driver Assist System means
It means a driver assist part has a fault. Adaptive cruise, collision alerts or lane keeping may switch off.
GM documents five causes. Two can end in calibration:
- A blocked or misaligned sensor: dirt, snow or an add-on blocking it, or a knock that moved it.
- An unfinished radar learn: a replaced or reset radar didn't finish the drive that sets its aim.
Clear a blocked radar or camera first. A moved sensor or new bracket needs re-aiming.
The other three are dealer or update jobs:
- An out-of-date map: short trips leave the hands-free driving map behind.
- A software fault: on 2023 and 2024 full-size SUVs, an over-the-air update helps prevent false messages.
- A seat motor circuit: the vibrating seat on 2014 to 2017 pickups and 2015 to 2017 full-size SUVs.

We read the fault codes
Our technician scans the car to see which part logged the fault. Map, software or seat faults go to the dealer.
- 4
We re-aim what needs it
Only the camera, radar or both that the codes point to. Your quote is confirmed in writing before anything is scheduled.
What the fix costs
A diagnostic scan to find the cause is $115. A windshield camera calibration is $300, a front radar calibration $330. Some models need both.
Calibration, per system

Diagnostic scan
- Same price on a mobile visit, except rows marked Shop bay only.
- Prices are before sales tax. Whether labor is taxed depends on your state; any tax that applies is itemized on your written quote.
- Dynamic calibration runs on the road, so it can be done as a mobile visit. Static calibration needs a level, lit, measured space, so whether your job can be done mobile depends on what your car's documented procedure calls for.
- Rows marked Shop bay only are done in a shop bay. The bay-and-road camera price applies when your car needs both calibrations.

Know your Service Driver Assist message
GM documents five causes for this message, and two can end in calibration. Fault codes, model year and recent work tell them apart.
The dash wording can't tell them apart, since GM prints it several ways.
| Cause | Models | Where GM prints it |
|---|---|---|
| A seat motor circuit | 2014 to 2017 pickups and 2015 to 2017 full-size SUVs with the vibrating seat | Bulletin, August 2016: "Service Driver Assist message" |
| A blocked or misaligned radar or camera, or a bent radar bracket | 2015 to 2020 Escalade with Driver Assist Package | Bulletin, September 2019: "Service Driver Assist" |
| The hands-free driving map out of date | 2021 to 2023 Escalade, 2022 to 2023 pickups and 2023 full-size SUVs with hands-free driving | Bulletin, April 2023: "Service Drivers Assist" |
| A radar learn drive that didn't complete | 2023 to 2026 models with a newer front radar | Bulletin, March 2026: "Service Driver Assist Message" |
| False messages, fixed over the air | 2023 and 2024 Escalade, Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon | Update note, April 2026: "Service Driver Assist System messages" |
Only a moved sensor or an unfinished radar learn needs calibration. The fault codes show which.

Newer GM radars calibrate on a learn drive. A technician starts it with a scan tool.
It finishes in town traffic. Highway miles won't complete it. The drive needs:
- cars and trucks of mixed sizes ahead
- a following gap of 50 to 150 feet
- mailboxes, guardrails and parked cars near the road
If it times out, the calibration isn't finished. It needs running again, as a front radar calibration.
Ask before a shop resets the learn. A reset erases all the progress made so far.
A 2025 or 2026 Enclave or 2024 to 2026 Envision may have this radar. Send your VIN to confirm.

Some models use one sensor for adaptive cruise, others two. Two can mean two calibrations after front-end work.
| Model | Adaptive cruise uses |
|---|---|
| 2024 Equinox | The windshield camera only |
| 2024 Silverado 1500 | The camera, plus radar with Super Cruise |
| 2024 Escalade, 2025 Enclave | Camera and radar |
Super Cruise is GM's hands-free driving feature. Not every truck has it.

New glass moves the camera mounted on it. So the camera needs re-aiming after every windshield job.
GM's position statement calls calibration "critical" when the windshield is replaced. It bars aftermarket glass.
On a Silverado or Sierra, GM lists these glass checks first:
- the GM logo etched in a lower corner
- no chips or cracks near the camera
- no tint or film in front of it
A curb or a front-end knock can bend the radar bracket unseen. Then the radar can't see far ahead.
On the 2015 to 2020 Escalade, GM's bulletin says the bracket "is not adjustable". A bent one gets replaced.

Service Driver Assist System: your questions
Find the cause first. Calibration fixes it only when the camera or radar moved or was replaced, as after new glass or a knock.
No work done? Start with a diagnostic scan. It costs $115 and shows which part logged the fault.
You pay per sensor re-aimed. Front camera calibration is $300 and front radar calibration is $330 at a service center.
Prices are per system, before sales tax where your state charges it on labor, and the full rate card is on the pricing page.
Camera-and-radar models may need both after front-end work. A diagnostic scan, when your job needs one, is priced and itemized separately.
It won't fix the cause. A bent bracket, an out-of-date map or a camera or radar fault brings the message back.
If a radar was just replaced or reset, its learn drive may be unfinished. Ask the shop to confirm it completed.
Some causes need no repair. On 2023 and 2024 Escalade, Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon, an over-the-air update helps prevent false messages.
Lots of short trips can also leave the hands-free driving map out of date. The dealer updates it.
Then the camera or radar aim wasn't the whole cause of the Service Driver Assist message. These are the next things to rule out:
- a bent radar bracket
- the wrong lower grille piece in front of the radar
- a radar learn drive that didn't complete
- a map or software update the dealer loads or confirms
Once that's fixed, the calibration runs again, and we quote it before you book.
Check your policy before you book. If the Service Driver Assist calibration follows a glass claim or collision repair, ask the adjuster about it.
Our quote prices each sensor on its own line. That makes it easy to send to the insurer.
