Warning

Can I drive my GMC with the message on?

Yes, with care. Until it clears, don't count on automatic braking or other driver aids.

  • Hands-free driving (Super Cruise): needs the camera and radar, so it may be off.
  • The newer radar's aiming drive: it needs town driving to finish. The message stays until that drive ends.

Radar replaced? Send your VIN for a price before you book.

What sets it off on a GMC

Service Driver Assist System on a GMC means a driver assist part logged a fault. GM documents different causes for different GMC years.

Two causes end in a calibration, which re-aims the camera or radar so its view of the road is straight:

  • An unfinished radar aiming drive: radar-equipped 2024 to 2026 Acadia and Sierra EV, 2025 to 2026 Terrain, Yukon and Yukon XL.
  • New glass or front-end work: a camera or radar knocked off its aim.

Three need the dealer or a software update instead:

  • The vibrating seat: a seat motor fault, 2014 to 2017 Sierra and 2015 to 2017 Yukon.
  • A stale hands-free map: 2022 (new body) and 2023 Sierra 1500, and 2023 Yukon, with Super Cruise.
  • False messages: 2023 and 2024 Yukon, addressed by an over-the-air update.

From the message to the fix

  1. 1

    Find your year

Check your GMC's model and year in the table below. It shows the cause GM documents and whether calibration fixes it.

  2. 2

    Note what came first

New glass, bumper or grille work, a new radar, or nothing at all? That narrows it as much as the year does.

  3. 3

Send your VIN and a photo of the message

Use the quote form. Your quote is confirmed in writing before anything is scheduled.

  4. 4

We re-aim what the codes show

We read the fault codes, then calibrate the camera, radar or both they point to. On the newer radar that includes its aiming drive.

What a GMC fix costs

New glass? Camera calibration. Front-end work or an unfinished aiming drive? Radar calibration.

A replaced radar can need coding. Send your VIN for a quote.

Service Price
  • Same price on a mobile visit, except rows marked Shop bay only.
  • Prices are before sales tax. Whether labor is taxed depends on your state; any tax that applies is itemized on your written quote.
  • Dynamic calibration runs on the road, so it can be done as a mobile visit. Static calibration needs a level, lit, measured space, so whether your job can be done mobile depends on what your car's documented procedure calls for.
  • Rows marked Shop bay only are done in a shop bay. The bay-and-road camera price applies when your car needs both calibrations.

Know your GMC's driver assist message

Five things can set off Service Driver Assist System on a GMC. GM's own documents tie four of them to this message.

Adaptive cruise on each GMC below uses a camera. Some add a front radar.

Model Adaptive cruise uses
2023 and 2024 Terrain The windshield camera only
2025 Sierra 1500 Camera, and radar on Super Cruise trucks
2023 Yukon, 2025 Acadia Camera and radar

A 2023 or 2024 Terrain has no front radar to blame. After new glass, it's the camera.

From 2025, a Terrain can have one, per GM's radar bulletin. Other models are on our GMC page.

GMC Service Driver Assist System: your questions

Not always. It needs one after new glass or front-end work, or when a newer front radar never finished its aiming drive.

The vibrating-seat motor (2014 to 2017) and the Super Cruise map are dealer jobs. 2023 and 2024 Yukons get an over-the-air update.

You pay per sensor calibrated. Front camera calibration is $300 and front radar calibration is $330 at a service center.

Prices are per system, before sales tax where your state charges it on labor, and the full rate card is on the pricing page.

Finishing the newer radar's aiming drive is a front radar calibration. A diagnostic scan, when your job needs one, is priced and itemized separately.

Most likely its aiming drive hasn't finished. Our technician starts it from a scan tool, then drives in town. Open highway won't finish it.

That's the newer radar on recent Acadias, Terrains, Yukons and the Sierra EV. The model table on this page lists the years.

Finishing it is a front radar calibration, $330 at a service center. A replaced radar can need coding first, $275, a separate quote line.

Your model year points to the cause. A 2023 or 2024 Yukon gets GM's over-the-air update for false messages.

Short trips can leave a Super Cruise GMC's map out of date.

On a 2014 to 2017 Sierra or 2015 to 2017 Yukon, check the seat alerts. The dealer handles the seat and the map.

Another year, such as a 2021 or 2022 Yukon? No GM document names one cause, so send your VIN and the fault codes decide.

Clearing the message doesn't fix the cause. It can come back once the part logs the fault again.

Then the aim wasn't the only cause. The codes show what's next, like a loose camera bracket or a software update.

Send your VIN with the codes and we'll say which job comes next.

It can. On a GMC under warranty, GM's bulletins list the map update and radar aiming drive as warranty work at a GMC dealer.

Collision damage isn't warranty work, so a radar replaced after a crash isn't either.

After a glass or collision claim, check your policy and ask the adjuster. Our quote prices each system on its own line.
