Warning

Is my Lexus safe to drive with this warning?

Yes, with care. Until it clears, don't count on the car to warn you or brake for you.

  • "Unavailable" or "System Stopped": a pause that ends once the sensors can see, or after a drive.
  • "System Malfunction Visit Your Dealer", or a warning that won't clear: have it inspected right away.
  • Stability control off: the warning sounds, but the car won't brake.

What stops a Lexus pre-collision system working

On a Lexus, a pre-collision "Malfunction" message means a fault, not a dirty sensor. Have it inspected before relying on it.

The PCS (pre-collision system) light comes on or flashes, with a message, when the system shuts itself off.

Look for something blinding or tilting the windshield camera, or the radar behind the front emblem:

  • Dirt, snow, ice or fog on the windshield or the emblem.
  • A sticker, tint or crack in front of the camera, or a broken emblem.
  • A lift kit, lowered suspension or a heavy load that tilts the car.
  • New glass, grille or bumper work, or an alignment. Then the camera or radar needs calibration: re-aiming it to see the road straight.

  • Clean the top of the windshield and the Lexus emblem on the grille.
  • Check stability control is on.
  • Switched the system off? Turn it back on in the settings on the display.
  • Battery replaced or disconnected? Drive a while before you judge.
  • Still on after a drive, or it says Malfunction? Then book a check.

Lexus camera and radar prices

Cleaning costs nothing. New glass adds the camera line. A grille, bumper or alignment job adds the radar line.

Service Price
  • Same price on a mobile visit, except rows marked Shop bay only.
  • Prices are before sales tax. Whether labor is taxed depends on your state; any tax that applies is itemized on your written quote.
  • Dynamic calibration runs on the road, so it can be done as a mobile visit. Static calibration needs a level, lit, measured space, so whether your job can be done mobile depends on what your car's documented procedure calls for.
  • Rows marked Shop bay only are done in a shop bay. The bay-and-road camera price applies when your car needs both calibrations.

Know your Lexus pre-collision system

The wording depends on your model year. Here's what pauses the system, what blinds it and which jobs need a calibration.

Safety System+ is the Lexus camera and radar set. Older models name the camera in messages, later ones the system.

On the 2022 NX, the 2023 RX and RZ, and the 2024 GX, most messages start "System Stopped". Our Lexus decoder explains the common ones.

No Lexus manual we read, 2019 to 2024, prints "Pre-Collision System Malfunction". That wording is covered on our Toyota pre-collision page.

Not listed, like a 2020 to 2022 RX or an LS 460? Treat "Unavailable" as a pause, then send the exact words.

Lexus pre-collision warning: your questions

PCS is the pre-collision system. Its light comes on or flashes, with a message, when the system pauses or shuts itself off.

Read the message first. It may be dirt, snow or fog on the windshield top or the front emblem. Clean both and drive.

The light also stays on while you have the system or stability control switched off.

A light that stays on or keeps flashing after that needs a check. Book one and tell us what the message says.

No button resets it. A paused system comes back by itself once the windshield and emblem are clear. Clean both, then drive.

Switched it off? On many Lexus models, a restart turns it back on. If not, use the settings on the display.

After a battery job, drive a while before you judge.

If it comes back after every clean, something needs fixing. Send us the exact words with your VIN.

No. A camera or radar that lost its aim needs re-aiming, and we do that nationwide, to Lexus's documented procedure.

Your job may need one sensor or both. Front camera calibration is $300 and front radar calibration is $330 at a service center.

Prices are per system, before sales tax where your state charges it on labor, and the full rate card is on the pricing page.

If a part has failed, a scan finds it first. A diagnostic scan, when your job needs one, is priced and itemized separately.

A replaced camera or radar on a newer Lexus may need factory software too. Your quote says who does that step.

Still under the Lexus warranty? Then call the dealer first.

Not necessarily. The camera reads the road through that glass, so new glass means a re-aim. Ask the glass shop if they did it.

Tint on the new glass can blind the camera too.

If the re-aim wasn't done, book a windshield camera calibration. It's $300 at a service center.

A calibration fixes aim. It can't fix a damaged part, which after a collision is usually one of these:

  • a bent camera or radar mount
  • damaged wiring or a loose plug near the repair
  • a failed camera or radar

A scan finds which. A diagnostic scan, when your job needs one, is priced and itemized separately.

Check your policy first. If a glass or collision claim paid for the work, the adjuster can say whether calibration sits inside it.

Your quote prices each sensor on its own line. That makes it simple to send on to the adjuster.
