Can I drive my Kia with this warning on?
Yes, your brakes work as normal. Automatic emergency braking won't, so leave more room ahead.
If the stability-control light is on too, get that fault fixed first. Both should clear.
If it stays on after that, or you've had glass or bumper work, send us the VIN.

What turns on your Kia's forward safety warning
"Check Forward Safety system" means a fault in your Kia's forward collision braking assist. Kia's manuals call the system Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.
On many models the message shows for a few seconds, then a warning light stays on. The usual reasons:
- Switched off in Settings. A restart turns it back on.
- A stability-control fault. Fix that and both clear.
- Snow, dirt or a sticker over a sensor. Then "Forward Safety system disabled" shows, with "Camera obscured" or "Radar blocked".
- A new windshield in front of the camera.
- Bumper or grille work, or a knock near the radar.
- A camera or radar that's been replaced.
The last three can shift a sensor's aim, with or without a light. Calibration re-aims it so it reads the road straight.
What to do when Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist isn't working
- 1
Take a photo of the message
It may only show for a few seconds. The exact words tell us what to check.
- 2
Check the setting
Turn Forward safety on in Settings, under Vehicle, Driver Assistance, then Driving Safety. Older Kias use User Settings on the cluster.
- 3
Clean, then restart
Wipe the glass where the camera looks out, and the radar cover up front. Then switch off and on.
- 4
Send the VIN for a quote
Do it if the light stays on, or after any glass, bumper or grille work. Your quote names the sensor and its price.
What a Kia forward safety fix costs
If the setting or a clean clears it, there's no job to pay for. Re-aiming the camera is $300, the front radar $330.
Calibration, per system
Coding a replaced part to your vehicle
Diagnostic scan
- Same price on a mobile visit, except rows marked Shop bay only.
- Prices are before sales tax. Whether labor is taxed depends on your state; any tax that applies is itemized on your written quote.
- Dynamic calibration runs on the road, so it can be done as a mobile visit. Static calibration needs a level, lit, measured space, so whether your job can be done mobile depends on what your car's documented procedure calls for.
- Rows marked Shop bay only are done in a shop bay. The bay-and-road camera price applies when your car needs both calibrations.
Which wording your Kia shows, by model year
"Check Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system"
- When a sensor is covered:
- "Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system disabled. Radar blocked" (2022 Telluride)
- Kia models and years:
- 2019 Sorento; 2022 Seltos and Telluride
"Check Forward Safety system", or "Check Forward Safety system(s)" on the Carnival
- When a sensor is covered:
- "Forward Safety system disabled." then "Radar blocked" or "Camera obscured" ("Forward Safety Function disabled" on the 2023 Sorento)
"Check forward safety systems" (the Telluride may say "Check Forward/Side Safety system")
- When a sensor is covered:
- "Forward Safety systems disabled. Camera obscured" or "Forward Safety system disabled. Radar blocked" (Telluride); "Forward safety systems disabled. Camera obscured" (Soul)

Know your Kia's forward safety warning
Many Kia forward safety warnings need no repair. Here's how to tell, and what happens when one does.
Kia's manuals call it the Forward Safety warning light. The 2019 Sorento manual says "FCA warning light".
- Switched off. Turning Forward safety off in Settings lights it.
- Back on at restart. The system switches itself on every time the car starts.
- The message timed out. On many models it lasts a few seconds, then the light stays.
Still lit with the system switched on? The 2024 Telluride manual says "have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer."

Forward safety switches off when the stability-control (ESC) light comes on. Its message can show too.
The 2019 Sorento manual says it "may appear along with the illumination of the ESC warning light."
The 2022 Soul manual says it "doesn't necessarily mean" a forward safety fault. Fix ESC and both clear.
So get that fault seen first. Calibration can't clear it.

The camera sits in the windshield. Many trims add a front radar, and some front corner radars too.
Kia's manuals describe two builds:
- Front Camera Only: the camera works alone, with no front radar.
- Sensor Fusion: the camera and the front radar work together.
Smart Cruise Control reads the same front radar. Its "Radar blocked" message can show at the same time.
A rear cross-traffic or blind-spot message comes from a rear radar. See blind spot monitor unavailable.

These are the 2024 Telluride manual's own warnings. Avoid them around the sensors:
- stickers, accessories or tint on the windshield
- moving the license plate, or adding a plate frame
- paint on the radar cover, or swapping it
- a pressure washer aimed at a sensor
After a knock, FCA "may not operate properly even if a warning message is not displayed on the cluster."

Your quote prices every sensor on a separate line. Nothing is scheduled until you say yes.
- Camera: re-aimed by the procedure for your model, $300.
- Front radar: aimed by the procedure for your model, $330.
- A new radar: coded to your Kia where its procedure needs it, $275, then calibrated, $330.
The new radar comes from your dealer or body shop. Calibration runs to full manufacturer specification.
Our prices per system match on all three makes. Hyundai and Genesis print two of these messages:
- 2022 Tucson and 2023 GV80: "Check Forward Safety system"
- 2025 Tucson and 2025 GV80: "Check Driver Assistance system."

Kia forward safety warning: your questions
There's no reset button. A "Radar blocked" or "Camera obscured" message goes once the sensor is clean.
A plain "Check Forward Safety system" stays until its cause is fixed. With the stability-control light on too, fix that first and both clear.
Switching the system off only lights the warning. If it stays on with clean sensors and the setting on, send us the exact words.
Not always. Check the setting and the stability-control light first, then clean the sensors and restart.
After a new windshield, the camera usually needs re-aiming, even if the light goes out. That's a front camera calibration, $300.
Bumper or grille work can move the front radar, on trims that have one, $330. A knocked sensor doesn't always set a warning.
With no recent work or knock, have a Kia dealer inspect it first.
It comes down to which sensor moved, if any. Front camera calibration is $300 and front radar calibration is $330 at a service center.
Prices are per system, before sales tax where your state charges it on labor, and the full rate card is on the pricing page.
A new radar is coded first, $275, then calibrated, $330. A diagnostic scan, when your job needs one, is priced and itemized separately.
Then aim wasn't the only problem. Check for a repainted or swapped radar cover, a new plate frame or a failed sensor.
A scan and a look at the parts show which. We quote any further work before anyone starts it.
Check your policy. If the warning began after a windshield claim or crash repair, ask whether the calibration belongs on that claim.
The quote itemizes each sensor on its own. Forward it to the adjuster as it is.
Still lit, or just had glass or bumper work?
Send the VIN and any recent glass, bumper or grille job. Your quote is confirmed in writing before anything is scheduled.
