Can I drive my Hyundai with this message on?
Your regular brakes aren't part of this warning. Automatic braking may not work, so leave more room.
Gone after you clean the sensors and restart? Then snow or dirt was the cause.
Still on, or on since glass, bumper or corner work? Send us the exact words for a quote.

Why your Hyundai shows it
"Check Forward Safety system" flags a fault in Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, your Hyundai's automatic braking. Newer models say "Check Driver Assistance system." instead.
Something has blinded a sensor or moved it, as on any other make. These are the usual causes:
- Snow, ice or mud on a sensor. A second line then says "Camera obscured" or "Radar blocked".
- A hitch carrier or trailer on the rear bumper, especially on models with corner radars.
- New windshield glass, which the camera looks through.
- Front bumper or grille work near the radar.
- A bumper corner repair or repaint on a model with corner radars.
- A new camera or radar.
The last four can move a sensor's aim with no message. Calibration re-aims each sensor to the angle Hyundai sets for it.
Your Hyundai's message: what to do
- 1
Photo the whole message
Snap it on your phone before it goes. "Radar blocked" or "Camera obscured" means something is covering a sensor, so clean it first.
- 2
Clean, then restart
Wipe the glass, grille and bumper corners. Unhook any hitch carrier. Restarting turns automatic braking back on if it was switched off in settings.
- 3
Message still on? Send the VIN
Add the exact words and any glass, bumper or corner work. The quote prices each sensor that needs it.
Hyundai forward safety fix: what it costs
Cleaning costs nothing. New glass means the camera, $300; bumper work, the radar, $330.
Calibration, per system
Coding a replaced part to your vehicle
Diagnostic scan
- Same price on a mobile visit, except rows marked Shop bay only.
- Prices are before sales tax. Whether labor is taxed depends on your state; any tax that applies is itemized on your written quote.
- Dynamic calibration runs on the road, so it can be done as a mobile visit. Static calibration needs a level, lit, measured space, so whether your job can be done mobile depends on what your car's documented procedure calls for.
- Rows marked Shop bay only are done in a shop bay. The bay-and-road camera price applies when your car needs both calibrations.

Know your Hyundai's forward safety message
Many Hyundai forward safety messages need no repair. Here's how to read yours, and what a job involves when it does.
A covered sensor needs no repair. Snow, mud, a sticker or a carrier can set the message off.
On the 2022 Tucson and the Elantra, restart after cleaning. The other models in the table clear by themselves.
Forward safety "may not operate properly even if there is no warning message", the 2022 Tucson manual adds.

Hyundai changed the wording model by model. So two new Hyundais can word one fault differently:
- Older words: "Check Forward Safety system", still on the 2026 Elantra
- Newer words: "Check Driver Assistance system.", from the 2024 Sonata, Santa Fe and Kona
The IONIQ 5 switched for 2025, to "Check Driver Assistance System." Earlier ones print "Check Forward Safety".
The newer message covers lane keeping and other faults too. A scan of the car's computer names which.

Some Palisade, Santa Fe and IONIQ trims carry radars at the bumper corners. Forward safety reads them too.
They watch intersections and the next lane. Palisades and IONIQ 6s add "Check Forward/Side Safety system".
The 2023 Palisade manual warns the function "may not work properly when the bumper has been replaced".
A cracked or oversprayed corner radar is replaced, then calibrated. Rear ones also run the blind spot warning.

Every sensor gets its own line and price on the quote. You decide before any work is scheduled.
- Camera: $300, re-aimed by your model's documented procedure.
- Front radar: $330, aimed the same way.
- Rear corner radars: calibrated as blind spot radars, $330.
- Front corner radars: quoted separately, from the VIN and the repair.
- A new front radar: set up to talk to the car, $275, then calibrated, $330.
- A new rear corner radar: set up, $275, then calibrated, $330.
If a knocked radar won't calibrate, it's often damaged inside. Your body shop orders a new one.
Kia and Genesis print the same messages, old and new. Our price per system matches on all three.
A 2023 Kia Sportage prints "Check Forward Safety system". A 2025 Genesis GV80 prints "Check Driver Assistance system."
Each make switched wording on its own timetable. Find yours here:

Hyundai forward safety message: your questions
Yes, if it's a setting or a dirty sensor. Switching "Forward Safety" off in settings turns on a warning light. A restart clears it.
A covered-sensor message goes once you clean it. The 2022 Tucson and 2024 to 2026 Elantra need a restart too.
Light or message still on after that? It's a fault, so send us the exact words.
Not always. A covered sensor or a switched-off setting needs no job, so check those first.
New glass in front of the camera means re-aiming it, even when the message has gone. That's a front camera calibration, $300.
Front bumper or grille work can shift the front radar, $330. Rear corner radars are $330. Front corner radars are quoted from the VIN.
No recent work or knock? Send us the exact words and we'll tell you if it's a calibration or a dealer repair.
It depends on the sensor. Front camera calibration is $300 and front radar calibration is $330 at a service center.
Prices are per system, before sales tax where your state charges it on labor, and the full rate card is on the pricing page.
Rear corner radars are $330. A diagnostic scan, when your job needs one, is priced and itemized separately. Send the VIN for your quote.
Usually a part near the sensor needs work too. On a Hyundai, it's one of two things:
- a bumper cover near a radar that was repainted, plastic-repaired or replaced
- a radar damaged inside by the knock
Send us the exact words again and we'll say what's left before any work starts.
Ask your adjuster whether calibration is part of the glass or body shop claim.
Each sensor sits on its own line of our quote. Forward it to the adjuster unchanged.
