When a windshield is replaced, the forward-facing camera must be repositioned. Even a fraction of a degree misalignment disables emergency braking and lane keeping. Mandatory on any vehicle manufactured after 2016 with a driver-assistance camera.
Radar modules are precision-mounted behind the grille or bumper. Removing those panels for any repair — even to replace a badge — shifts the module enough to compromise detection accuracy at highway speeds.
