How Long Does ADAS Calibration Take?
Duration depends on which systems need calibrating, which method is required (static, dynamic or both), and the vehicle make. Some manufacturer procedures are faster than others for the same calibration type.
Windshield Camera Calibration: 60-90 Minutes
Forward camera calibration after windshield replacement is the fastest service. The technician prepares the workshop, positions targets, connects the diagnostic system, runs the calibration and verifies. Total time from arrival to handover: 60-90 minutes. Allow two hours as a buffer for complications - a damaged bracket, target compatibility issues, or a required software update can extend the appointment.
Radar Calibration: 60-120 Minutes
Duration varies by whether dynamic calibration is needed. A single front or rear radar module calibrated statically takes 60-75 minutes. A vehicle with front and rear radar requiring both static and dynamic phases takes up to two hours. Dynamic adds 30-45 minutes of driving time.
Collision Calibration: 90 Minutes to 3 Hours
Post-accident calibration covers multiple systems displaced by the impact. Duration depends on how many sensors need attention. A rear impact displacing one blind spot radar is shorter than a front-end collision affecting camera, radar and parking sensors together. For complex collision repairs, book a full morning.
Full System Reset: 2-4 Hours
A complete diagnostic scan followed by calibration of every out-of-spec system. This is the most thorough service. Complex vehicles with six or more ADAS systems - common on VW Group, GM and Mercedes models - may take 3-4 hours. Book first thing in the morning.
What Extends Your Appointment
Software updates on older vehicles. Multiple ADAS systems all needing sequential calibration. Diagnostic investigation of a fault that needs fixing before calibration. And battery voltage - 59 US ADAS practitioners confirmed that connecting a battery maintainer during static calibration is standard practice. A battery drop mid-procedure forces a restart, adding 20-30 minutes.
